SMOKE ALARMS
FREE SMOKE ALARM PROGRAM
Bensalem Township Fire Rescue recognizes that working smoke alarms save lives; therefore we created a Smoke Alarm Program. Smoke alarms with 10 year lithium batteries were received through donations from Parx Casino and 6ABC “Operation 6: Save a Life Campaign”
If you live in a privately owned home in Bensalem Township and have a genuine need for FREE SMOKE ALARMS please contact Bensalem Fire Rescue at 215-633-3617 or email Stephanie at [email protected]
WHERE SHOULD SMOKE ALARM BE INSTALLED
A smoke alarm is the most important safety feature of your home. Properly installed, working smoke alarms provide the early warning you need to safely escape from a fire.
Smoke alarms should be placed in all bedrooms, outside each sleeping area, and there must be at least one smoke alarm on every level, including the basement. It is recommended NOT to place smoke alarms closer than 10 feet to cooking appliances.
Smoke alarms should be tested once a month. If your smoke alarm is equipped with a 9-volt battery the batteries should be replaced twice a year (every six months). All smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years and cleaned periodically to keep dust and other particles from interfering with its detection.
