Message from Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo

Hello to all residents of our beautiful community. It’s my pleasure to serve as your Mayor and my distinct honor that you have placed your trust in me over 2 decades, having been elected to serve this community through 2025.

As the “Gateway to Bucks County,” Bensalem- formerly known as Cornwells Heights- is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. As a native of Bensalem, I have both lived and worked the land (DiGirolamo Brothers Farms, Inc.) and raised my family in this historical town. 

Upon retiring from commercial farming at the age of 51, I wanted to give back to the community that has given so much to myself and my family. My mother and father, both immigrants from Italy (Ascoli Piceno), came to the United States in the early 20th century seeking the American dream. Through years of hard work, my parents achieved that success and instilled upon their children (me being the youngest of 4) to be giving and never forget your roots, which we never have! 

With that being said, I’m proud to be your Mayor! During my tenure, my goals have included aggressive programs that enhance the lives of our citizens. Bensalem Council and I have worked together to make our town a community in which we can all be proud. It has not been easy, and nothing worth having usually is. However, my vision for a strong, thriving and dynamic community has come to pass, and we work every day to ensure Bensalem is headed in a direction that is right for the people. 

​Bensalem Township- by our geographic location with easy access to 1-95, PA Turnpike, Route 1, and Septa & Conrail Commuter Lines- is a very busy place. 250,000 people come through our community each and every day and over 60,000 people are lucky enough to call Bensalem home. To meet the needs of our busy suburban location, we pride ourselves with our fully accredited police department. Receiving this full accreditation means our police force meets the “Gold Standard” in law enforcement. I’m pleased to work with law enforcement who spearhead the latest in crime prevention and crime solving technology, which keep our residents safe. The safety, health and welfare of my constituents is my first priority! 

​In Bensalem Township we are always striving for improvement to better the lives of our residents. We are currently working on several initiatives including: 

• Revitalization of Bensalem Country Club 20th century Mansion House
• Stormwater Management Initiatives
• Revitalization of the Neshaminy Mall
• Street Road Corridor Improvement 
• Continued Revitalization of our 5 Mile Delaware River Front 
• Affordable Housing for Disabled Veterans

In summary, I would like to say that Bensalem Township has an extraordinary record of successful initiatives, and I will continue to work with Council to bring about positive change to our community. It has always been my belief that “teams win", and we have a great team here!
