Periodic northbound and southbound single lane closures and 15-minute traffic stoppages may be in place on Monday, September 13, through Thursday, September 16, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on U.S. 1 in Bucks County for construction between the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange in Bensalem Township and the Penndel/Business U.S.1 Interchange in Middletown Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. During the periodic closures on U.S.1, Bristol Road also will be closed between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway. The stoppages and closures are required as crews conduct controlled blasting to remove rock from the embankments along U.S. 1 where widening will take place. In addition, the ramp from southbound U.S. 1 to Street Road (Route 132) will close this Friday, September 10, from 8:00 PM to approximately 5:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, for construction. Motorists will be detoured south on U.S.1, then turn right on Old Lincoln Highway to Street Road (Route 132). Periodic lane restrictions also may be in place Sunday, September 12, through Thursday, September 16, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and the turnpike interchange and on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit — under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County. JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $110.8 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022. Sections RC1 and RC2 are two of the three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough. View agenda for Bensalem Township PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING to be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building at 2400 Byberry Road HERE. 20 Years Ago, on September 11, 2001 our world changed. What the attack on Pearl Harbor was to our parents and grandparents, the attacks of 9-11 were for all of us. Thousands of lives were lost during the terrorist attacks. Thousands more were directly impacted by the lives that were lost that day. All of our lives were forever changed. Ten years ago, on the 10th anniversary of 9-11, we put together the program you’re about to see. It’s the recollections of the people here at the Township of what happened that day, and the days that followed. We must never forget what happened to our country that day. We must make sure that the young people of our community, and generations to come, know what happened to our country that day. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Bensalem Township’s Annual Fall Festival has been canceled with the exception of the evening concert and fireworks. Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 there has been a lack of interest and/or staffing with vendors, sponsors, community groups and food vendors. We hope you will come out and enjoy the concert featuring Boogie Wonder Band on Saturday, October 2nd at 6:00pm. Followed by fireworks at approximately 8:00pm. This Wednesday, September 8th through Friday, September 10th (previously 9/7-9/9) Brown Avenue/ Dunksferry Road from Hulmeville Road to Knights Road will be closed from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for vegetative cleanup and removal. Blasting will be taking place on Route 1 (near Rockhill Drive) this Wednesday September 8th and Thursday September 9th at approximately 8:00 P.M. The blasting will only take a few minutes a night, and will be completed by 8:15 P.M. During the blasting Route 1 will be shut in both directions. *UPDATE: Blasting for Wednesday 9/8/21 has been canceled to the possibility of bad weather. Blasting will now begin on Thursday (9/9) this week. Periodic northbound and/or southbound U.S. 1 single lane closures and 15-minute traffic stoppages may be in place in Bucks County on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday, September 9, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, for construction between the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange in Bensalem Township and the Penndel/Business U.S.1 Interchange in Middletown Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
