Edward DeVenney, Chairman The ramp from northbound U.S. 1 to Business U.S. 1 at the Penndel/Business U.S.1 Interchange in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, will be closed and detoured on Thursday, January 13, from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for utility construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. Motorists normally using the ramp will be detoured north on U.S. 1 to the Maple Avenue Interchange, then left on Route 213 back to Business U.S. 1. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. The utility work is part of PennDOT’s $110.8 million contract to reconstruct and widen U.S. 1, replace two bridges, and improve the Neshaminy, and Penndel/Business U.S. 1 interchanges. View agenda for Bensalem Township COUNCIL MEETING to be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building at 2400 Byberry Road HERE Northbound U.S. 1 in Bucks County will be reduced to a single lane between the Neshaminy and the Penndel/Business U.S.1 interchanges in Bensalem Township on Monday, January 10, through Thursday, January 13, from 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM the following morning for construction related to widening the expressway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. In addition, periodic lane restrictions also may be in place Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange and on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township. Motorists should allow extra time for travel through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit — under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County. JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $110.8 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022. Sections RC1 and RC2 are two of the three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough. Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo is proud to announce the appointment of the new Bensalem Township Director of Public Safety, William McVey.
Director McVey joined the Bensalem Police Department in 1998 and was appointed to Director of Public Safety by Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo in January, 2022. As Public Safety Director, he is responsible for the management and operation of the Police Department and Bensalem Fire Rescue, and for the coordination of Township Volunteer Fire Companies and Emergency Medical Services. Director McVey has climbed the ranks over his 24-year career and has served in many capacities within the Department. These positions include: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, K-9 Officer, Sergeant (Patrol and Criminal Investigations) Lieutenant, and Deputy Director. Director McVey also served as the Department’s Public Information Officer for many years. Director McVey graduated from Bensalem's St. Charles Borromeo then attended Archbishop Ryan High School. He has a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University, and a Master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and the Senior Management Institute for Police presented by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). In addition to his duties in Bensalem, Director McVey serves as the 3rd Vice President of the Chiefs of Police Association of Southeastern Pennsylvanian and the President of the Bucks County Hero Scholarship Fund. Over the course of his career, Director McVey has been the recipient of multiple commendations and awards. Most recently he was recognized as one of the 2017 Emerging Leaders for Bucks and Eastern Montgomery Counties by the Bucks County Courier Times and Intelligencer. Director McVey is a long-time resident of Bensalem and enjoys spending his time off with his wife and their three daughters.
